Superfood Hummus

Oh man, I so love taking a classic and giving it a fun healthy twist! I’ve been wanting to make this superfood hummus for a while, and I needed to make a healthy treat for an all-day meeting at work, so I whipped up this glorious creation. Unfortunately (Whole30 Day 19) I couldn’t eat it with everyone else (legumes), BUT I will definitely be making it again!! What a beauty.


Good Stuff: Traditional hummus is a great source of protein, but this superfood hummus just about triples that protein level, and boosts it with a whole array of fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids. If you are a hummus lover – this is a great way to pack in extra nutrients without changing your routine too much!


(You can do this 100% homemade, or semi-homemade…mine is semi-homemade because I’m a busy girl)

  • 1 large tub of plain, organic hummus – Whole Foods brand is great!
  • 1 small bunch of spinach
  • 1 small bunch of kale
  • 2 tspn of spirulina powder
  • 1 tbsn of pure moringa powder*
  • 1 tbspn of avocado oil
  • 1 tspn of chopped garlic

*Moringa! If you haven’t heard of it, now is the time to learn. It is an incredibly nutrient-dense leaf, native to India. It is literally brimming with over 92 nutrients and it has all 9 essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. It has a slight bitter bite like kale, but also a sweetness to it, like matcha powder. Yum 🙂


Mix in food processor and go crazy. The extra avocado oil helps keep it smooth and non-clumpy. Feel free to add more than a tablespoon if if feels too thick.

Service with fresh veggies and/or whole wheat pita or tortilla chips!
